Daemen’s AGPCNP students are employed in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings:
- Long-term care facilities
- Rehabilitation centers
- Internal medicine offices
- Ambulatory care centers
- Community clinics
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in nursing from a ACEN or CCNE accredited program.
- One year medical-surgical clinical experience (or equivalent).
- Completion of an undergraduate or graduate statistics course with a grade of C or better.
- Cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or above (on a 4.0 scale) from all colleges/universities attended. Applicants with GPAs below 3.25 in undergraduate studies may be admitted on a provisional basis if they submit evidence of the potential to be successful in graduate studies.
- Current registered professional nursing license in New York State.
- Current resume.
- Letter of intent or letters of reference may be submitted to strengthen application.
- Interview with the nursing faculty.
This program prepares Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioners to provide direct patient care to adults from adolescence through senescence in a variety of clinical settings.
The development of independent decision-making skills and autonomy in the delivery of holistic health care are emphasized.

Upon completion of the adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner program, the graduate will:
- Appraise variants in health, including physiological variations, in a wide range of cultural, racial, ethnic, age, and gender groups in a commitment to health of vulnerable populations.
- Incorporate core scientific and ethical principles in advanced nursing practice to adult and geriatric populations.
- Synthesize theoretical, scientific and contemporary clinical knowledge for the assessment and management of both health and illness states of adult and geriatric patients.
- Collaborate with the interprofessional team, individuals, family and caregivers in the development of appropriate interventions for adult and geriatric patients.
- Participate in the design, development, and evaluation of current and evolving health care services to optimize care and outcomes for diverse adult and geriatric patients.
- Evaluate health outcome data using current technologies, information systems, and statistical principles to develop strategies to reduce risks and improve health outcomes of adult and geriatric patients.
- Exert leadership within the profession and within the healthcare system to advocate for change using a systems perspective
- Employ evidence based practice guidelines to design and implement culturally competent health care for health promotion, health protection, disease prevention, and disease management of adult and geriatric patients
- Contribute to professional nursing through evidence based nursing practice, professional engagement and service to the profession and the community, disseminating scholarly work and through evidence based practice.
