The 2017 Job Fair had 51 employers in the Wick Social Room eager to talk with Daemen students (and recent graduates) about full-time and part-time jobs and internship opportunities.

These companies had a chance to meet Daemen students interested in learning more about employment opportunities within their companies. The Annual Health Care Networking Event was held on Thursday, November 17, 2016, from 4:30 - 6:30 pm in the Wick Social Room. 42 employer's participated in the recruiting event and a total of 141 students attended.

The Second Annual Alumni-Student Mentoring Brunch, as part of the 2016 Daemen College Homecoming festivities, was a great success. The event was held on Saturday, November 5th, in the Wick Alumni Lounge as a collaboration between Career Services and Alumni Relations. The Mentoring Brunch allowed students to network with Daemen College alumni in their field and build relationships that could further their goals post-graduation. Opening remarks were made by Jacquelyn Rizzo, Class of ’70 and Vice Chair of the Daemen College National Board of Governors, and Lamark Shaw, Associate Director of Career Services, followed by food and networking. Closing Remarks were given by Col. Jean Anderson, Class of ’92 and a 2016 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient, on how mentorship has advanced her career in the U.S. Army.
Career Services hosted a Networking Etiquette event ahead of the 2016 Alumni Student Mentoring Brunch on November 1st at 7PM in RIC 101. This event prepared students who would be attending the Brunch on networking skills, professionalism, business dining etiquette, and how to make the most of the experience for their careers.

People, Inc. participated in on-campus interviews on Thursday, April 28th from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm. 13 students took advantage of the opportunity to interview and People, Inc. was very pleased with the quality of Daemen students and felt that most would receive offers of employment.
2016 SHRM Mock Interview Event

Nine interviewers from Buffalo Public Schools, Select 1 Search, Perry’s Ice Cream, Employer Services Corporation and Sharp Human Resources were on campus during Academic Festival to provide students with an opportunity to interview for an internship or job that interested them.
Twenty seven students participated in the event and when evaluated, the top two answers for “Skills or Knowledge Acquired” Included What Questions to Ask an Interviewer & How to Respond to Difficult Questions and How to Be More Confident and Convey Positive Body Language in an Interview. Students were also very grateful to gain feedback on their professional documents, how to dress for success and career tips when searching for jobs!
Student Evaluations: 100% of participants found the event to be "Very or Somewhat Valuable" Comments offered on the evaluations were as follows: "I thought that the interview was great and I am very glad that I did it" and “The event was great, it was a good experience."
This year’s Teacher Recruitment Day (TRD) was held at the Conference & Events Center in Niagara Falls, NY. Recruiters from Erie/Niagara were present on Thursday, April 14, 2016 and those from USA were present Thursday April 14th and Friday, April 15, 2016.
Students and Alumni from the following schools were present to interview for teaching positions in all certification areas: Buffalo State College, Canisius College, Daemen College, D'Youville College, Fredonia, Houghton College, Medaille College, Niagara University, St. Bonaventure University, SUNY Empire State College and University at Buffalo.
The event is a great opportunity for eligible candidates in the Education field to practice interviewing and gain insight on what schools are looking for. Based on employer feedback, the event was well-run and they were happy with the candidates who interviewed.
A total of 25 students took time out of their busy schedules to listen a panel discussion that included Dave Long, Public Affairs Officer for Customs and Border Protection, Mindy Czechowski, Erie County Chief of Classification & Competition, Erie County Department of Civil Service and Najuma Herimaat, Principal Staffing Services Representative for the Department of Civil Service in Albany, New York took part via video conference.
29 Freshman students took part in creating their individual affirmation as well as took part in participating in some fun games.
15 Students and faculty attended and put their skills into practice creating an engaging LinkedIn Profile.
This was part one of two presentations. There were 51 in attendance. Attendees learned about the value of having a LinkedIn account, what to put on their profile and how to leverage their profile to gain an internship or job opportunity.

Student/Alumni Homecoming Brunch
Daemen College alumni and students had the opportunity to learn more about each other and network at the first homecoming brunch held Nov. 7 as part of the college’s homecoming festivities.
Co-sponsored by the Offices of Alumni Relations and Career Services, the event kicked off with the 35 participants completing a speed networking questionnaire to provide career information to those in attendance.
Following brunch, Kathryn Graf, director of alumni relations, introduced Amy Wesolowski ’89, president of the Buffalo Chapter of the Alumni Association, who invited alumni to share inspirational stories about their career journey after graduation. Business cards were then exchanged for future mentoring opportunities.
“I was amazed at the turn out by alumni to support students at our first brunch for the mentoring program,” said Wesolowski. “By attending this event, it made me realize the strong impact Daemen has had on me and inspired me to give back by serving as a mentor to current students. This is another way to be a part of the Daemen family.”
Dr. Maureen Millane, associate vice president for community engagement, creativity and career development, was pleased with the success of the event. “The brunch was a wonderful opportunity for students to engage with several alumni who took the time to participate in the event,” she said. “Based on very positive evaluations, we anticipate this becoming an annual event and a new Daemen tradition.”

A Major Discovery

Faculty and staff were on hand to answer students questions about the different majors offered at Daemen College.
On October 1st, 2015 Career Services sponsored the NYS Young Panel CPAs young discussion. The panel participants were, Geoff Smith, Assistant Vice President/Senior Accountant - Internal Audit (First Niagara Bank), Christie Adamczak (Dopkins and Company - Audit), Amanda Ornowski (Chiampou - Tax), and Jesse Lewandowski (UB Associates, Inc. - Not for profit with Public Accounting). The panelists were engaging students in a rich discussion and challenging the students to “think out-side of the box.”
The panelists promoted an environment in which students felt comfortable asking questions and being part of the discussion.

Dr. Adam Kisalius, Assistant Dean Department of Educational Affairs at Roswell Park Cancer Institute came on campus October 1, 2015 to deliver an informative presentation on an exciting internship opportunity for 3rd year PA and Biology students. With an engaged audience of over 60 students, Dr. Kisailus provided an overview of the summer program, eligibility and the application process.

On Thursday, April 23, 2015, Career Services welcomed Drs. Vishala Neppalli and Elizabeth Griffiths from Roswell Park Cancer Institute to hear their personal and professional journeys to success and answer questions from attendees.
On Thursday, April 9, Career Services held a Make Yourself Marketable Event. 30 students attended the event. Students were able to learn about the +PLUS Pathways and the +PLUS Cluster Programs. +PLUS Pathways enhances the degree and expands career options by adding to the BA or BS and is fully integrated into the individual curriculum with no additional time or cost to the student by focusing the student’s core and free electives in an interdisciplinary series of six to ten courses. The +PLUS Clusters consist of three courses focused on a theme. This pathway may explore one academic discipline in depth or may have an interdisciplinary focus on a related topic.

On Thursday, November 13, Career Services held a Health Care Networking Event. Over 30 organizations attended and 150 students participated. Students and alumni networked with representatives in the health care field and learned about career opportunities as well as specific internships, jobs and volunteer opportunities.
