Where are you from?
I am from Northeast England, a county called Yorkshire (the best county) just outside of the City of York. I’ve lived there my entire life before coming here for college.
What was your reason for coming to Daemen College/how did you hear about Daemen College?
I was with a scholarship agency for golf in England, and got recruited by Daemen on there. I was emailing the Global Programs Office on campus and my coach for the golf team and I decided it sounded like the kind of place I wanted to come to. Everyone made me feel very comfortable with the switch. The school made me feel like an individual, and that’s why I came.
What do you aspire to be after college/what are your career plans?
I aspire to become a sustainable director for a large company one day. My goal is to use my degrees in sustainability and business to complement each other by having knowledge in both fields. Once graduating with my bachelor's, I plan to complete a Master's in Global Business to further my education and knowledge. This I feel should make me very competitive in the field I wish to enter.
Please describe your impressions of Daemen College.
I’ve been here two full years now at the college and feel at home. I know a few professors very well and have many friends here. It’s a small, but very friendly environment. I felt good about Daemen from the very beginning.
Tell us about your life outside of academics: clubs, sports, hobbies, things to do around Buffalo, NY.
I play on the Men’s Golf team, so I travel around with the guys for 5 or 6 weeks to the tournaments we play during each semester, and we practice 2-3 times a week on top of that. I have friends that live around different areas of Buffalo that know where to eat and hang out in the city. Buffalo has a lot to offer and never gets boring for me. I go back to England every Christmas and summer to see my family and I like to travel whenever I get the chance. I’m 21 and already feel like I’ve seen a lot of the world, which is something I’m very thankful for. I love watching movies, and pretty much all sports. I like to keep active whenever I can too.
Please describe any internship, study abroad, service learning, or academic experience (Academic Festival or research you are working on or have worked on in the past).
I have not done my internship yet, but I am planning one for next fall. I usually present 2-3 times at the Academic Festival every spring at Daemen, which is a good experience and certainly has improved my public speaking abilities. In January, I am making a service learning trip to the Dominican Republic, to help local schools with health issues, and to help build a new basketball court for a local school also. Next summer, I am planning a study abroad trip, but have not decided on the location yet. I have been learning Mandarin Chinese and it is a possibility that I will do it in China to broaden my horizons.
