Daemen College Coronavirus Announcement
As a leader in health sciences education, Daemen College is utilizing the expertise of its faculty and staff members to closely monitor developments in the rapidly evolving nature of the novel coronavirus. The college is using its existing emergency preparedness and response mechanisms to take proactive and preventive measures to help ensure the health of the campus community, including conducting table top exercises as part of its emergency response plan, sending communications to the community in preparation for spring break travel, monitoring study abroad trips, and more. Daemen is following guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization, as well as professional organizations within higher education. Daemen has plans outlined if there is a suspected or confirmed case and procedures for responding and communicating as needed.
The college’s highest priority remains the health, well-being, and safety of Daemen students, faculty, and staff and future decisions will be made with this in mind. As this situation develops, the college will determine if Daemen study abroad programs will proceed as scheduled in the coming months.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) FAQs
Daemen College is closely monitoring the spread of a novel Coronavirus connected to an outbreak in Wuhan, China. We will continue to follow guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO) and New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) to ensure the well-being of our community.
The outbreak of respiratory illness caused by a novel (new) coronavirus (COVID-19) was first identified in December 2019 in the city of Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. The CDC considers this new virus a public health concern based on current information available. The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person. It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.

Take these steps to avoid the spread of germs:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
- Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds

Wellness Kiosk: FREE wellness products are available to students. Wellness products include but are not limited to: cold & cough medicine, pain relief medicine, cough drops, vitamin C drops and disposable thermometers. The kiosk is available in the Health Services Office, Wick 116 in The CHIP Center during office hours, 8:30am - 4:30pm.
Free Urgent Care Transportation: Students can contact Daemen College Campus Safety by phone at 716-839-7233 [SAFE] or visit the desk in Wick Lobby and request free transport to one of two Urgent Care locations (within 1 mile of campus).
