AMHERST – Author Linda Jenkin Costanzo will discuss her book, “Our Sons, Our Heroes: Memories Shared by America’s Gold Star Mothers From the Vietnam War,” at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 13 in the Daemen College Wick Campus Center Alumni Lounge.

The book, which took Costanzo 13 years to complete, tells the stories of 16 women from Western New York and around the country whose children were killed while serving as soldiers in the Vietnam War. It offers a poignant look at the devastating loss and grief endured by the women known as “gold star mothers,” a reference used for mothers who have lost a son or daughter in military service.

The collection of touching stories of the Vietnam-era mothers in the book were based on in-depth interviews conducted by Costanzo, a Clarence resident.

The event, which is being sponsored by Daemen’s Nancy Haberman Gacioch Center for Veterans, is free and open to the public.
