Hochul to Address Sexual Assault Prevention Law at Daemen

Jan 25, 2016

AMHERST, N.Y. – -- Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul will address New York State’s “Enough is Enough” sexual assault prevention law and learn the latest in Daemen College’s comprehensive efforts at a meeting with the campus community at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 27 in the Wick Campus Center Alumni Lounge.

The discussion follows Hochul’s visit last year to talk about the proposed sexual assault policy legislation at a roundtable meeting with Daemen students, faculty and staff. Since being signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo in July, Hochul has been conducting a tour of colleges and universities across the state to discuss the new policy.

“Enough is Enough, championed by Gov. Cuomo, is the nation's most aggressive policy to fight against sexual assault on college campuses,” said Hochul. “I look forward to hearing more about Daemen’s proactive initiatives that support this policy.”

The “Enough is Enough” legislation requires all colleges in New York State to adopt a set of comprehensive sexual assault protection procedures and guidelines, including a uniform definition of affirmative consent, a statewide amnesty policy, and expanded access to law enforcement.

“Daemen’s sexual assault prevention and policies are a priority to ensure the safety of all our students,” said Daemen President Gary A. Olson. “We are pleased to welcome Lt. Gov. Hochul to Daemen to talk about this bold legislation as we work together to combat campus sexual assault.”

Among those who will be in attendance will be Dr. Greg Nayor, vice president for student affairs and co-chair of the Western New York Consortium of Higher Education Sexual Assault Awareness, Prevention and Compliance Task Force, as well as Daemen student leaders, and others from the college community.
