Feb 10, 2020AMHERST, N.Y. – Daemen College will offer a new master of business administration program beginning this fall that will provide students the opportunity to earn their MBA in a shorter amount of time.
The college’s MBA program, which has received approval from the New York State Department of Education, is a 36-credit hour program designed for those who have earned a bachelor’s degree and are seeking an advanced business degree.
Through the new program, students will be able to complete their MBA in 12 to 18 months rather than the usual 24 months for most traditional programs. Courses will be delivered online, on-campus, or in a hybrid format, which is a mix of both on-campus and online instruction.
“Building on the high academic quality of our undergraduate business degree, we are well-positioned to add an MBA program that will allow students to develop the advanced business skills and knowledge valued by employers,” said Dr. Torsten Doering, director of the MBA program. “Completing an MBA in as little as one year makes our program more affordable and will allow our students to begin their career sooner as MBA graduates.”
Daemen’s MBA program includes concentrations in sought after fields of health policy and management, international business, and leadership and innovation. A flex concentration will allow students to select courses from each of the other concentrations. An internship option will also be available for students to gain real-world experience and have the opportunity to develop their skills in the workplace.
“This new MBA program will add to the depth and breadth of Daemen’s expanding choices of first-rate graduate programs available to students in Western New York and beyond,” said Dr. Michael Brogan, senior vice president for academic affairs and dean of students. “We have created a rigorous and relevant MBA experience that will prepare and position students for future success in the business world.”
Taught by experienced faculty and expert business practitioners, coursework will cover corporate finance, organizational leadership, strategic operations management, marketing and e-commerce, and other key business areas.
Doering explained the MBA program is in response to a growing interest for this degree among Daemen undergraduate students and an increasing demand from employers, noting that “a recent college survey of local employers showed that nearly 60 percent expect their hiring needs for MBA-qualified graduates to increase in the next three to seven years.”
Nationally, the demand for MBA graduates continues to be high. A 2019 poll by the Graduate Management Admission Council found that 90 percent of Fortune Global 100 and 500 companies plan to hire MBA graduates. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of management occupations is projected to grow 7 percent from 2018 to 2028.
“Offering day and evening courses in different formats will give students greater flexibility and access to our MBA program, particularly for working professionals,” said Doering. “Our faculty are committed to providing our MBA students a highly personalized learning experience that is the hallmark of a Daemen education.”
