AMHERST, N.Y. – Dr. Lisa Parshall, professor of political science at Daemen College, has been selected for the prestigious Fulbright Specialist Program, which connects highly-qualified U.S. faculty and professionals for project-based exchanges at host institutions in 160 countries around the world.

“A highly respected scholar in the political science field, Dr. Parshall’s selection for this global exchange program is well deserved,” said Dr. Michael Brogan, senior vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college. “The Fulbright Specialist Program is a remarkable opportunity for Dr. Parshall to share her scope of expertise with institutions abroad and will allow her to bring a new depth of international experience and knowledge to teaching in the classroom.”

The Fulbright Specialist Program, which was established by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, pairs faculty and professionals with host institutions to share their expertise, strengthen institution connections, hone their skills, build experience, and learn about other cultures. Representing a range of academic and professional disciplines, specialists are selected based on knowledge, skills set, and the ability to make a significant contribution to projects overseas. More than 420 specialists travel abroad each year to engage in two- to six-week projects.

As a Fulbright Specialist, Parshall will serve as an expert on curriculum, faculty development, planning, and related areas. She specializes in public policy and administration, intergovernmental relations, judicial politics, and national, state, and local politics.

Parshall was one of five faculty selected last year as an inaugural Richard P. Nathan Public Policy Fellow at the Rockefeller Institute of Government in Albany. During the fellowship, she partnered with nationally known Rockefeller Institute staff to research pressing public policy issues in education, state, and local government administration, and economic opportunity.

An active scholar, Parshall most recently published “Reforming the Presidential Nominating Process: Front-Loading’s Consequences and the National Primary Solution” and co-authored “The Icelandic Federalist Papers,” a volume of articles on Iceland's constitutional change process.

She is serving as first vice president and the 2019 program chair for the Northeastern Political Science Association and as key votes advisor for Vote Smart, and is also a member of the New York State Political Science Association.

Parshall, who received Daemen’s 2019 Outstanding Faculty Award, earned a doctorate and a master’s degree in political science, both from the University at Buffalo, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

She resides in Tonawanda.
