AMHERST, N.Y. – Dr. Gregg Shutts, professor and chair of the Daemen College Physician Assistant Studies Program, has been named a 2018 Health Care Champion by Buffalo Business First.

In announcing the honorees, Business First noted, “Twenty-nine professionals have been named to the 2018 roster of Health Care Champions, signifying their high levels of accomplishments within the field.”

The distinction recognizes exceptional health care professionals for their compassion, innovation, research, and care in Western New York. Honorees were selected by a Business First in-house committee.

“We congratulate Dr. Shutts on this tremendous honor, which is a testament to his deep commitment, professional excellence, and contributions to our region’s health care industry,” Dr. Michael Brogan, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college. “He is richly deserving of this recognition and we are proud to have him on our faculty.”

Shutts was recently appointed by the New York State Board of Regents to a five-year term on the State Board for Medicine. He was honored as PA Educator of the Year by the New York State Society of Physician Assistants, and is a distinguished fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

Shutts earned a doctorate in health policy from D’Youville College, a master’s degree in student personnel administration from SUNY Buffalo State, a physician assistant graduate certificate from Yale University School of Medicine, and a bachelor’s degree in health science from SUNY Cortland.

He resides in Amherst.
