AMHERST, N.Y. – Renee Bowman Daniel, associate professor of social work at Daemen College, received the 2016 Humanitarian Award in honor of her exemplary dedication to the social work profession at the college’s annual Social Work Humanitarian Fund Dinner held on April 8.

Daniel was recognized for her devotion to the social work field and for her “exceptional service on behalf of people who are vulnerable, oppressed and living in poverty. She is innovative and visionary in her approaches, and her contributions have had an impact in the field of social work and beyond.”

In addition to teaching during her nearly 30-year tenure at the college, Daniel has served as chair of the Daemen Department of Sociology and Social Work and as undergraduate program director. She was also instrumental in establishing the college’s new master of social work program, which was launched in 2015.

She is a member of the Association of Baccalaureate Program Directors, Council on Social Work Education, and the National Association of Social Workers.

A Buffalo resident, Daniel earned a master’s degree in social work from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Hofstra University.
