AMHERST, N.Y. – Daemen College has chosen 10 outstanding first-year students to receive 2019 Trustee Scholarships, the college’s most prestigious academic scholarship that is renewable throughout their undergraduate studies. The college has also awarded three Trustee Scholarships to high-achieving transfer students.

To be considered for the Trustee Scholarship, prospective first-year students are nominated by Daemen President Gary Olson to apply for the awards and then participate in interviews with college faculty and staff on Scholars Day. More than 200 students from New York, California, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and other states from across the country competed for this year’s coveted scholarships.

Selection is based on academic achievement, vision for self and society, enthusiasm, and inspiration, academic and personal discipline, and leadership ability. Both intellect and character are considered, and selected scholars are those who have the potential to make a difference in their careers and in the Daemen and external communities.

Prospective transfer students are also nominated by Daemen’s president to compete for Trustee Scholarships and are interviewed on Transfer Scholars Night held in the spring. Scholarships are awarded to transfer students based on the same selection criteria as first-year recipients.

The 2019 Daemen Trustee Scholars are:

• Alex Christensen of Batavia, Batavia High School – visual arts education major.  
• Karthryne Colwell of Farmington, Victor Senior High School – business administration major with an international business specialization.           
• Calen Homes of Bath, Haverling High School – natural science major with a forensic science specialization.
• Dylan Huber of East Aurora, Iroquois High School – biology/cytotechnology major.          
• Jacob Kaska of Lancaster, Lancaster High School – adolescent special education students with disabilities major.               
• Willow-Su Knapp of Oswego, Oswego High School – physician assistant studies major.  
• Angeleah Lograsso of Angola, Eden High School – physician assistant studies major.        
• Courtney Merrill of Indianapolis, Ind., Speedway High School – physical therapy major. 
• Katelyn O’Neill of Erie, Pa., Fort Le Boeuf High School – physician assistant studies major.            
• Lauren Ondreyko of Wallkill, Wallkill Senior High School – pre-medicine major.  

This year’s Transfer Trustee Scholars are:            

• Claire Denies of East Aurora, SUNY Erie Community College – health promotion major with a community health/integrative health and wellness specialization.   
• Alexandra Hodgson of North Tonawanda, Niagara County Community College – nursing major.
• Jessica Pullins of Buffalo, SUNY Erie Community College – social work major.
