AMHERST, N.Y. -- Daemen College physician assistant students provided free health screenings to Buffalo residents in the city’s Seneca Babcock neighborhood at a community health fair held last month.

Under the supervision of Associate Professor Joel Patterson, a group of 25 Daemen PA students offered diabetes, blood pressure and other preventive screenings at the health fair. Since it was launched in 2005, the community outreach effort has benefitted nearly 550 Seneca Babcock residents.

Co-sponsors of the health clinic were the Daemen Physician Assistant Society and the college’s Paul A. Saffrin Center for Sustainability and Civic Engagement, which has an established partnership with Seneca Babcock to address issues that affect the neighborhood’s sustainability and future growth and development.

“This event is an opportunity for our physician assistant students to contribute to the health and well-being of the Seneca Babcock community,” said Cheryl Bird, the center’s executive director.
