Sep 18, 2023AMHERST, N.Y. – For the fifth consecutive year, Daemen University has been recognized as a top institution of higher education in the country, being named to the U.S. News & World Report 2023-2024 Best National Universities list.
Daemen is one of just three universities in the Buffalo-Niagara region to be included on the list and one of only 28 in New York State.
Institutions in the national universities category offer a full range of undergraduate majors as well as master's and doctoral degrees, and many strongly emphasize research.
U.S. News also ranked Daemen among the national universities as a top performer in the social mobility category, a listing that measures how well schools graduate students who have received federal Pell Grants.
The university, which is known as Western New York’s premier health science educator, also earned national recognition for its undergraduate nursing program. Daemen’s program ranked third amongst such programs in the region.
“These rankings highlight our longstanding commitment to academic excellence and student success,” President Gary A. Olson said. “In the highly competitive world of higher education, Daemen continues to distinguish itself as a college of national distinction.”
For its 39th rankings edition, U.S. News evaluated nearly 1,500 four-year bachelor’s degree-granting institutions and the rankings for National Universities were calculated using 19 key measures of academic quality.
U.S. News modified the methodology this year, placing greater emphasis on a school's success in graduating students from diverse backgrounds and removing factors such as alumni giving rate, percent of faculty with terminal degrees, undergraduate class size, and high school standing.
Categories for U.S. News and World Report’s college rankings are related to those used by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Daemen has maintained its spot in the top tier of the Carnegie Classification’s prominent doctoral category since 2018.
