The primary purpose of assessment is to improve student learning and institutional effectiveness. Institutional data and assessment findings are also used for external reporting and accountability to various stakeholders. Assessment of Institutional Effectiveness is the overarching plan for and process of using information for planning, decision-making, and improvement in all areas of the college. Institutional effectiveness involves aligning the goals of individual units with the college mission and strategic plan.
Assessment of the Core Curriculum, under the leadership of the Core Director and the Core Assessment Committee, involves ongoing inquiry about student achievement of the seven Core Competencies and other Core requirements. The Core competencies include; Critical thinking, Communication, Information Literacy, Civic Responsibility, Contextual Integration, Affective Awareness, and Moral & Ethical Discernment. Core assessment also addresses the other outcomes of Core offerings including learning communities, service-learning, quantitative literacy, writing-intensive, and research & presentation courses.
The primary purpose of institutional research supports our institution in data-informed campus decision-making and planning in areas such as admissions, financial aid, curriculum assessment, enrollment management, staffing, student life, finance, facilities, athletics, and alumni relations.
