You may receive notification from the Financial Aid Office that your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) was selected for review in a process called verification. The law says that before awarding Federal Student Aid, we may ask you to confirm the information you (and your parents if you’re a Dependent student) reported on your FAFSA. To verify that you provided correct information the Financial Aid Administrator at your school will compare your FAFSA with the information on your worksheet and with any other required documents. If there are differences, your FAFSA information may need to be corrected. You (and at least one parent if you’re a Dependent student) must complete and sign your worksheet, attach any required documents, and submit the form and other required documents to the Financial Aid Office. You may be asked for additional information. If you have questions about verification, contact your Financial Aid Administrator as soon as possible so that your financial aid will not be delayed.
Notice: Effective starting with the 2013-2014 academic year, federal tax returns (1040s) can no longer be accepted by the Financial Aid Office, per federal regulation. Students and/or parents that are required to submit tax information must either use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool when filing the FAFSA or request a Tax Return Transcript directly from the IRS. Tax return transcripts can be requested online at IRS.gov, through the U.S. Mail using Form 4506-T or by calling the IRS at 1-800-908-9946. Once you have received or downloaded the tax return transcript, submit a copy to the Financial Aid Office.
The preferred method of verifying your tax information is to use the IRS Retrieval Tool in the FAFSA. It’s a simple process that only takes a few moments. Using the IRS Retrieval Tool will upload all of your tax information directly from your IRS tax return.
You should have received a Verification worksheet in the mail if you were selected for verification. If you have misplaced your worksheet or need a new copy, they are available for download below. Please check with the Financial Aid Office to make sure you are completing the correct form. All verification forms need to be returned to the Financial Aid Office by mail, fax or email.
