The Nursing Department received NYSED approval for the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program in January 2024. This submission was entirely a group effort. Dr. Valazza led the work group and Drs. Merriam, Valazza, Nosek, Lu, and Kershaw were each contributors along with Dr. Scheid from PT and Dr. Blankschaen from Philosophy, Languages, & Religious Studies who wrote the course syllabi.
The inaugural class of the Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practioner Program (AGACNP) graduated in May 2024. We celebrated them at their White Coat Ceremony on May 31st. We are incredibly proud of these students and thankful for their willingness to be pioneers of this new program. Daemen has been added to the 1199SEIU Training and Upgrading Fund as a participating school. The 1199SEIU Training and Upgrading Fund provides members with funding for their education through a voucher that the member would present to the school as a form of payment for classes.
We are excited to add high-fidelity simulation and point-of-care ultrasound technology to the curriculum. Nursing Faculty, Marci Zynda and Sue Stoklosa, led the interprofessional simulation and one of our graduating Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Students taught her interprofessional peers how to use the point-of-care ultrasound technology.
