Let’s get moving! Establishing healthy habits now will help you to continue living your best life throughout your time at Daemen and well beyond. Daemen Recreation offers students dynamic experiences that encourage an active lifestyle, personal growth, social interaction, and fun! So gather your friends and try a group fitness class or jump into an intramural game of dodgeball or volleyball! Join our Club Archery team or lift weights at the fitness center. Shoot hoops during open gym or attend a special event for stress relief. There are countless opportunities to engage in joyful movement with friends regardless of whether you are a star athlete or never broke a sweat in your life. Now is the time to get moving, and we are your destination for recreation!
Club Sports are student-led organizations offering the opportunity to represent Daemen University in intercollegiate contests against club teams from other colleges and universities. Club sports require a much lower time-commitment than participating in varsity athletics, while still offering an avenue to compete on a team, under coach guidance, while wearing a Daemen jersey. Club sports can vary greatly in terms of expected skill level, time-commitment, transportation needs, and cost. Students interested in joining a club team should contact the club president to determine next steps, or contact the Director of Recreation and Wellness if interested in starting a new club sport.
Intramural sports are open to all members of the Daemen community throughout the year, regardless of experience or skill level. Gather some friends and classmates, or sign-up as a “free-agent”, and join any upcoming league via the IMLeagues app or website. Leagues typically play once-a-week for 6 or 7 weeks, culminating in a championship game to win bragging rights and the coveted Championship Tee Shirts! It’s a great way to meet new people, get some exercise, and have fun! Leagues typically offered include: 3 v 3 basketball, sand volleyball, dodgeball, pickleball, badminton, kickball, soccer, and more!
Group Fitness Classes run multiple times each week throughout the year! Free for all students, these classes offer both beginners and those more experienced a chance to improve their cardio, muscular strength and endurance, balance, and flexibility in a welcoming and inclusive group setting. Jump into a Pilates class, try new Yoga poses, or challenge yourself in Bootcamp Class. Work at your own pace under the guidance of a certified instructor and experience all the benefits of group fitness!
Whether it is Welcome Back Week, Founders Celebration, Finals Week or any time in-between, there is always a reason to get active! Keep an eye out for one-day events, activity hours, mini-tournaments, or celebration parties to help relieve some stress and have fun! We also work with numerous clubs and organizations across campus to help create that perfect event for your group. Reach out and let us know how we can help your club or organization put on that next fun event. Some recent events included: Wildcat Media Team Basketball and Volleyball Classic, Nursing Students Yoga and Yogurt Night, Center for Diversity and Inclusion Self Defense Class, SPTA Stress Relief, PA Student Society Activity Hour, and more!
Daemen offers numerous opportunities and locations to get active! The Academic and Wellness Center houses the recreational gym, fitness center, and space for fitness classes, while the north lawn features an outdoor basketball court and sand volleyball court! All across campus you’ll find students moving, playing, working out, and having fun!
Interested in a different activity? Let us know! We are always looking for new activities to help Daemen students pursue an active lifestyle, promoting their physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. Let’s work together to make it happen! The office of the Director of Recreation and Wellness is located in the AWC Gym, Room 120. Stop in or email bstothar@daemen.edu anytime.
